F1 British GP celebrities: Luke Littler and Emilia Clarke lead list of stars at Silverstone

Sir Brian May, Tom Hiddleston and Luke Littler will also head to Silverstone this weekend


The British GP is one of the most lucrative events on the F1 calendar and is the oldest race in the sport’s so it’s only natural that some of the biggest names in the celebrity sphere head to Silverstone from the entertainment, music and sports industries.

The 52-lap race in Northamptonshire first took place back in 1950 when it was attended by Queen Elizabeth II, who was then a princess, but there will be no members of the British Royal Family in attendance on July 7.

Despite that, F1 British GP celebrities see a list of iconic names heading to the paddock as it becomes increasingly popular among celebrities, attracting a star-studded crowd to races around the world and to the 2024 British GP.

Celebrities play a significant role in influencing the popularity of F1 in several ways. When high-profile celebrities attend events, they bring attention to the sport through their massive social media followings and media coverage. This exposure helps introduce the sport to new audiences who might not have been previously interested in motorsports.

Liberty Media and teams deliberately invites celebrities as part of its marketing approach. A single post on a celebrity’s social media account can be worth millions in advertising value to F1, highlighting how the presence of A-list stars adds to the glamorous image of the sport.

Events like the British GP are known for attracting celebrities, enhancing the sport’s prestigious reputation, from various fields – actors, musicians, athletes, and models, helping to bridge the gap between motorsport and other areas of popular culture and there are some mega names on show, so let’s dive in.

Rowan Atkinson

Atkinson, CBE, is a legendary actor, comedian, and writer renowned for his timeless comedic characters, notably Mr Bean and Blackadder, which have achieved global acclaim. His mastery of physical comedy and expressive acting has influenced generations of comedians and entertainers, making him an enduring figure in the world of comedy.

And he’s also an avid F1 fan! As a passionate fan of the sport, Atkinson often seen attending races and supporting the McLaren team. His love for cars and racing extends beyond fandom, as he has participated in car-related activities and events, showcasing his deep interest in the high-speed, technical world of racing.

Now aged 69, the adored actor will be a guest of Mercedes and of F1, so let’s see if the cameras capture any iconic gestures from the diverse actor.

Emilia Clarke

Clarke is an award-winning actress best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO series Game of Thrones, a performance that earned her critical acclaim and an iconic status in one of the most popular television shows of all-time.

Trained at the Drama Centre London, Clarke‘s career also includes roles in films like Terminator Genisys, Me Before You, and Solo: A Star Wars Story whilst beyond her acting career, she is involved in various charitable endeavours.

Clarke founded SameYou, a charity aimed at supporting young adults recovering from brain injuries and strokes, following her own experiences with brain aneurysms and she also calls for women to accept the ageing process without turning to excessive cosmetic procedures to try to preserve their youthful looks.

For the 2024 British GP, she will be a guest of F1.

Tom Hiddleston

Hiddleston is a distinguished English actor renowned for his versatility and charisma both on stage and screen whilst beyond his vocation, he is known for his eloquence, humility, and philanthropic efforts, supporting various causes, including UNICEF.

He gained international fame for his portrayal of Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with Thor in 2011 and continuing through several subsequent films and the Disney+ series Loki.

His performance has garnered a dedicated fan base and critical acclaim that has often seen the Brit linked to one of the biggest roles in movie franchise history, James Bond, although it remains to be seen whether he will take up the mantle.

The God of Mischief will be a guest of McLaren this weekend, so will he sprinkle some misfortune on the rivals of Lando Norris’ papaya-coloured car?

Sir Brian May

Sir Brian May is an iconic British musician known as the lead guitarist of the legendary rock band Queen, May co-founded the band in the early 1970s and contributed to its massive success with his distinctive guitar riffs and song-writing prowess on hits like We Will Rock You and Bohemian Rhapsody.

Beyond his music career, May is a dedicated scholar; he completed his PhD in astrophysics from Imperial College London in 2007 and has co-authored several scientific papers and books.

Knighted in 2023 for his services to music and charity, May is also a passionate animal rights advocate. He founded the Save Me Trust to protect wildlife and is actively involved in various environmental causes. His multifaceted career and contributions to music, science, and humanitarian efforts have made him a revered and influential figure worldwide.

A notable Formula 1 enthusiast. His interest in F1 racing has led him to attend numerous Grand Prix events, with the British GP proving to be the latest one as he appears as a guest of Mercedes for qualifying and the race.
