F1 Brazilian GP 2024 Starting Grid

Lando Norris braved the rain at Interlagos and will start the 2024 Brazilian GP on pole position

-

The 2024 Brazilian GP starting grid has been set after a gruelling, eventful and rain soaked qualifying session at Interlagos, with Lando Norris securing pole position for McLaren.

Initially postponed from Saturday, Sunday morning’s qualifying session was rife with surprises, including reigning champion Max Verstappen’s early exit in Q2, multiple crashes, and last-minute efforts to secure top positions on the Brazilian GP starting grid.

In Q3, heavy incidents involving Fernando Alonso and Alex Albon halted proceedings with just over three minutes remaining, leaving only seven cars in contention for pole.

Norris navigated the challenging conditions with a fastest lap of 1:23.405s, edging out Mercedes’ George Russell, who will start second. Yuki Tsunoda achieved a career-best qualifying in third, and will be joined on the second row by Alpine’s Esteban Ocon.

Q2 was interrupted twice, first when Carlos Sainz collided with the barriers, and then when Lance Stroll’s crash ended the session prematurely. Drama also unfolded in Q1, with Norris narrowly securing a spot in Q2, a feat that saw Lewis Hamilton bumped out and ending in P16.
