F1 Azerbaijan GP 2024 – Qualifying Results

Charles Leclerc will start the 2024 Azerbaijan GP on pole position, his third of the F1 season

-

In a mesmerising qualifying session in Baku it was Charles Leclerc who topped the timesheet and set the fastest lap, just ahead of Oscar Piastri in the 2024 Azerbaijan GP Free Qualifying results.

It was disaster for Lando Norris with the McLaren driver unable to make it out of Q1, after posting the 17th fastest time in Baku, after a yellow flag disrupted his second flying lap.

With Norris being knocked out early, Piastri will line up alongside the Monegasque for McLaren, splitting the Ferrari cars in the process as Carlos Sainz was P3.

Red Bull looked a lot quicker and somewhat surprisingly, Sergio Perez qualified fourth, well ahead of teammate Max Verstappen who could only manage sixth.

Further down the order George Russell was the quickest Mercedes in fifth, out qualifying Lewis Hamilton, and winning the inter-team battle on a Saturday for the season.

Rookies impress in Baku

Oliver Bearman on his debut for Haas just missed out on a Q3 appearance after he was knocked out by Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin.

Williams driver Franco Colapinto also turned heads with his Q2 performance in which he jumped to P6, well ahead of teammate Alex Albon. The Argentine eventually qualified ninth.

We also saw a surreal moment from Albon who had a fan attached to his car when coming out for his final run. Luckily Albon managed to remove it and throw it off to the side of the track at the pit exit.
