Sergio Perez emerged the victor in a rather forgettable 2023 Azerbaijan GP, jumping his Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen and Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc, who was on pole position, to take his second win of the campaign.
All hope of a Ferrari victory in Baku was extinguished in the first couple of laps after both Verstappen, then Perez, used their superior speed with DRS to breeze past Leclerc.
Perez was then able to move ahead of Verstappen when Nyck de Vries hit the wall and brought out the safety car, with the Mexican able to take advantage.
From there, the order barely changed, other than Fernando Alonso moving into fourth as he passed both Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes, and then Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz.
