As has been the story of 2023, Max Verstappen claimed victory at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to take his 19th win of the F1 season and end a year of Red Bull domination on the top step of the podium.
The fight was between Mercedes and Ferrari in the constructors’ championship with Charles Leclerc, who finished third on track, taking second place for the Scuderia, while George Russell in the Silver Arrow finished fourth behind Sergio Perez in the second Red Bull.
Perez was handed a five second penalty for colliding with Lando Norris in the latter stages of the race, and even with Leclerc giving up second to allow the Red Bull through.
The Mexican couldn’t open up the required gap to Russell in the final lap, so despite finishing second on track, he was dropped to fourth. And that meant Mercedes were second to Red Bull in the constructor standings.
The McLaren pair of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were fifth and sixth, respectively. With Fernando Alonso seventh place in the Aston Martin. That meant McLaren secured fourth place in the constructor standings.
