F1 Miami GP 2025 starting grid: Verstappen leads Norris and Antonelli after tight qualifying

Max Verstappen starts from pole at the Miami GP, with Lando Norris and Kimi Antonelli completing a competitive top three

-

Max Verstappen will line up first on the Miami GP 2025 starting grid after an outstanding final effort in Q3 secured pole position for the Red Bull driver. Verstappen’s 1:26.204 lap edged McLaren rival Lando Norris by just 0.065s, with Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli earning a superb third place.

The reigning world champion made up for a scruffy first attempt in Q3 by nailing the final run, taking full advantage of Red Bull’s upgraded floor to dominate the high-speed sectors in Miami. Norris, who won the Sprint earlier in the day, narrowly missed out after clipping the inside kerb at the final corner.

Antonelli’s third on the Miami GP 2025 grid follows his Sprint pole on Friday, confirming the 18-year-old’s rapid adaptation to Formula 1. His teammate George Russell will start fifth, while Oscar Piastri was fourth in the second McLaren. Carlos Sainz continued his strong form with Williams, putting his car sixth on the grid. He will be joined on the third row by teammate Alex Albon, who took seventh.

Ferrari endured a difficult session, with Charles Leclerc only eighth and Lewis Hamilton failing to make it out of Q2, down in 12th. Esteban Ocon delivered his best qualifying of the season for Haas, securing ninth, while Yuki Tsunoda rounded out the top 10 in the second Red Bull.
