For the second race weekend in a row, Lando Norris secured the fastest lap of the race, this time at the 2025 Miami GP. The McLaren driver put in an impressive 1:29.746 on Lap 36 of the 2025 Miami Grand Prix but he could not secure the race victory.
Oscar Piastri proved to be the faster of the two McLaren‘s despite only starting Sunday’s race in P4. An incident between Norris and Max Verstappen at the very start of the race saw the British driver drop down the order and by the time he had cleared the cars in front of him, Piastri had an unassailable lead.
Only the McLaren‘s were able to produce a race lap in the 1.29s, with Piastri‘s fastest lap being a 1:29.822 on Lap 35, just one lap before Norris snatched it back again. Given how tight the Drivers’ Championship is set to be this season, Norris may be wishing there was still a point on offer for fastest lap given he got it in Miami and Saudi Arabia.

As the race progressed, Norris was able to eat away at the sizeable lead that Piastri had built up whilst the former was battling with Verstappen for position. With roughly five laps to go, Norris was less than four seconds behind his teammate but then appeared to run out of steam.
What it did show, once again, is that there will be some incredibly tough on-track fights between the two McLaren drivers as this long season progresses, and there is now only 16 points between them in the standings.
Piastri discusses where Norris lost time
As mentioned, it was multiple battles with Verstappen which allowed Piastri to build up a lead which Norris had little hope of eradicating once he was unleashed.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1 after the race, Piastri admitted that the battling was useful to him: “Yesterday was a tricky day. Qualifying was one of my trickiest sessions of the year so to come away and win is an impressive result.
“A bit of argy-bargy at Turn 1 which helped me a bit. I was aware enough to avoid Max coming through in Turn 1. From that point onwards I knew I had a good pace advantage and clearly the car was unbelievable.”
