F1 Hungarian GP 2025 Free Practice 2 LIVE: Latest Updates

Your FP2 results

Here are the full results from FP2 at the Hungaroring. We’ll have another live blog tomorrow for FP3.

End of FP2

A busy and at times foul-tempered Free Practice 2 session comes to an end, with the two McLaren drivers showing their supreme pace once again. It was scruffy at times with both Norris and Piastri having adventures off of the track, and they almost crashed at Turn 1 right at the end of the session. Norris ended the session with an almost three tenth lead over Piastri, and Leclerc sits third again.

More from the Singapore GP

Catch up with Total Motorsport's latest Singapore GP coverage, including Max Verstappen's victory at Marina Bay, Ferrari's costly strategy gamble, the full race classification, and the updated 2026 Formula 1 Drivers' and Constructors' Championship standings.

The two Aston Martin drivers will be very happy with the work they were able to do. It’s been a pretty torrid season for them, but Stroll ended FP2 in P4 and the injured Alonso is in P5. If they can carry that pace into Saturday’s sessions, they could expect to be in the frame for points on Sunday.

Max Verstappen was an extremely frustrated figure in FP2, with his Red Bull car never behaving as he wanted. Complaints on the radio were frequent as Verstappen could only reach P14. Tsunoda was up in P9 when the chequered flag was waved.

6 minutes to go

Max Verstappen is extremely unhappy in this session, describing his car as ‘undriveable’. For fans of his rivals, that could seem like great news given he is currently nowhere near the McLarens, but we’ve seen this film before. Until qualifying has finished, don’t rule him out.

10 minutes to go

Almost everybody is doing race runs now, meaning the lap times have dropped slightly as consistency becomes the order of the day. The most confused man on track is Carlos Sainz, who lost telemetry and comms and could not hear his engineer. He was told to box, but then telemetry came back and he was told to stay out. Liam Lawson was blocked by Sainz and complained on the radio, but Lawson’s engineer was quick to mention that Sainz had very limited information to work with.

19 minutes to go

We saw Oscar Piastri have quite a serious excursion onto the grass earlier in the session, and now Norris has had a big snap in the final corner and almost found himself in the barrier. They are the two fastest men on track, but they are pushing each other to the limit.

26 minutes to go

Plenty of cars out on the soft tyres now. Lance stroll actually went to the top of the timing sheets, but others have since gone quicker. Norris leads from Piastri now, but Stroll’s time still has him in P3.

Max Verstappen seems to have just found a small rag/towel in his car which he then threw to the side of the track like it was a visor tear-off. Plenty of cars running wide and getting in each other’s way as this session progresses and people start putting in flying laps with the soft tyres.

35 minutes to go

As we expected, the two McLaren drivers are trading fastest laps and they are so clearly quicker than the other cars on track. Carlos Sainz is the first car to put on the slick tyres and he has put his Williams into P3, but you’d expect Charles Leclerc to take that spot back again based on form so far in this session and FP1.

44 minutes to go

Oscar Piastri has now managed to get a clean lap together and he has gone two tenths faster than Norris. Isack Hadjar has shown good pace so far, moving up to P5 on the medium tyre. As for Yuki Tsunoda, his Red Bull has not been behaving as he would like, whilst teammate Max Verstappen has told the team that it’s ‘like driving on ice’. Both Red Bull drivers very unhappy with the balance of that car.

50 minutes to go

It’s been a steady start to FP2, with Niko Hulkenberg’s slight brush with the gravel providing the only real action. Franco Colapinto was next on the scene and feared that the gravel may have damaged his car, but he looks fine for now.

Oscar Piastri is clearly pushing hard already, though, as he had a little snap in the second sector and lost some time. His teammate and championship rival, Lando Norris, is top so far with a 0.265 lead over Charles Leclerc.

FP2 on the way

We’ll have more track action in less than 10 minutes, with FP2 getting underway in Hungary. It was hardly a shock to see the two McLaren’s performing so well in the first session, so expect them to be trading fastest laps again at the Hungaroring this afternoon.

Fernando Alonso is going to be back in action for this session, having missed FP1 because of a muscle problem in his back. This could be. a fairly explorative session for the Spaniard as he finds out what his limits are ahead of tomorrow.
