Leclerc crashes in FP1
Charles Leclerc’s session ended prematurely after a heavy crash. The Ferrari driver had just set the fastest time of the session before a lock-up at Turn 3 sent him careening across the grass and into the barriers, damaging the left side of his car.
“I’m sorry,” Leclerc told the team over radio. “I locked up and should have gone straight. I thought I could make the corner but I hit the wall.” He ended the session 10th despite the incident.
McLaren, the current championship leaders, endured a rough start to the weekend. Lando Norris appeared unsettled throughout the session, narrowly avoiding several off-track excursions including a wild moment at the hairpin. He ended the session 12th.

Oscar Piastri, who leads the championship standings, was down in 14th as the team trialed a new front wing and front suspension setup. The wing is expected to be retired after Friday, but the revised suspension aims to address Norris’ complaints of a “numb” front axle.
Elsewhere, Yuki Tsunoda slotted into 11th for Red Bull, just ahead of Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin. Racing Bulls’ Liam Lawson, Alpine’s Pierre Gasly, and Leclerc rounded out the top ten, while Gasly’s rookie teammate Franco Colapinto spun early at Turn 2 and finished 19th.
