F1 British GP 2025 LIVE: Latest Silverstone Updates

Lando Norris: British Grand Prix winner

Claiming victories at the Circuit de Monaco and Silverstone in the same season isn’t bad as far as it goes and Lando Norris can proudly say he has accomplished that feat.

Keeping his cool in tricky conditions, he kept his car on the road and fended off his rivals to win the 2025 British Grand Prix and close to within eight points of Oscar Piastri in the drivers’ standings. So how does he feel about his triumph?

More from the Azerbaijan GP

Catch up with Total Motorsport’s latest Azerbaijan GP coverage, including George Russell’s dramatic Baku victory, the full race classification, the fastest lap result, and the Driver of the Day from the 2026 race.

“In terms of being a stressful race, this is as stressful as you can get,” Norris said to F1 TV. “It was a good race for Oscar as well. I’ve got to give credit to Oscar, he was fast the whole way.

“So a round of applause Oscar, because he put up a good fight. I enjoy those moments together when we’re on track, not as much when he’s ahead of me as when he’s behind, but that’s life.”

He added: “It’s beautiful. Everything I dreamed of, I guess. Everything I’ve ever wanted to achieve. Apart from a championship, I think this is as good as it gets in terms of feelings and in terms of achievement, being proud, all of it.

“This is where it all started for me, and now thankfully I’ve been able to have my go.”

Piastri refuses to discuss Verstappen incident

Oscar Piastri, perhaps rightly, is aggrieved at the 10-second time penalty he suffered at the 2025 British Grand Prix after he was adjudged to have braked in a dangerous manner.

He caused Max Verstappen to avoid a big crash and that penalty ultimately cost him the victory to McLaren’s Lando Norris, his direct title rival, and he is far from impressed.

“I’m not going to say much. I’ll get myself in trouble,” Piastri told F1 TV after the race. “Well done to Nico. I think that’s the highlight of the day.

“Apparently you can’t brake behind the Safety Car any more. I did it for five laps before that.

“I’m not going to say much because I’ll get myself in trouble. I still like Silverstone, even if I don’t like it today…”

Hulkenberg reacts to thrilling podium

Two hundred and forty one races into his Formula 1 carer, Nico Hulkenberg is finally on the podium as he weathers the storm in wet conditions to stun the audiences at Silverstone.

He ends his record of the longest run without a podium, which is handed back to Adrian Sutil, and finally gets what he deserved after so many years of narrowly missing out. What a result for the German! What does he make of it?

“It feels good. It’s been a long time coming, hasn’t it,” Hulkenberg told Jenson Button. “But I always knew we have it in us, I have it in me, somewhere.

“What a race. Coming from virtually last, doing it all over again from last weekend. It’s pretty surreal, to be honest. I’m not sure how it all happened, but obviously crazy, mixed conditions.

“It was a survival fight for a lot of the race. I think we just were really on it with the right calls, the right tyres in the right moment, made no mistakes – quite incredible.”

LANDO NORRIS WINS 2025 BRITISH GRAND PRIX

He wasn’t the quickest man out there today but he was the most consistent as Lando Norris crosses the line before anyone else to win the British Grand Prix for the first ever time!

Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen both made errors at Silverstone on Sunday but the 25-year-old McLaren ace kept his head and kept his focus to deliver an excellent result for the team.

He’s cut the gap in the drivers’ standings down to eight points and has all the moment to carry forwards as he looks to chase down his first ever championship title.

And hats off to Nico Hulkenberg, who take this first ever podium 12 years on from that heartbreaking crash at the 2012 Brazilian GP, when he was on to win. What a result for Sauber ahead of their switch to Audi!

Lap 51/52: Order with two laps to go

Lando Norris leads Oscar Piastri ahead of Nico Hulkenberg in the podium spots.

Then comes Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, Lance Stroll, Pierre Gasly, Fernando Alonso, Alex Albon and George Russell in the Top 10 at Silverstone.

Lap 50/52: Sauber are moments away

A Sauber on the podium is one of the last things people would have expected at the 2025 British Grand Prix but Nico Hulkenberg is right there on course.

The German needs to keep it on the road and he will back a podium at Silverstone, the very first one of his career.

What a story!

Lap 48/52: No team orders for McLaren

Oscar Piastri will not get his chance to retake the lead and battle Lando Norris to the flag, he will have to catch him on track now.

But with a 6.3-second gap to the McLaren ahead, that’s looking very unlikely. This could be a big moment in the Formula 1 championship battle.

Lap 46/52: Leclerc through the gravel

Charles Leclerc goes through the gravel and loses any chances of the points at the 2025 British GP as he drops all the way back down to 14th.

It’s not been a good weekend for the Monegasque racer, who would have come into the weekend with an outside chance of a podium but has watched that chance thoroughly disappear.

He’s only got Yuki Tsunoda behind him now, who is a very, very long way back.

Lap 45/52: Oscar Piastri goes off the road!

Oscar Piastri runs wide through Maggotts and Becketts but just manages to keep his McLaren out of the barriers with a trip through the gravel.

He’s now 4.4 seconds behind Lando Norris for the lead of the race, and thinks they should switch cars but that isn’t going to happen.

Who will win the 2025 British Grand Prix?

Lap 43/52: Hulkenberg and Piastri pit

Oscar Piastri comes into the pits, serves his 10-second time penalty and surrenders the lead of the 2025 British Grand Prix to Lando Norris as Nico Hulkenberg comes into the pits and takes the medium tyres.

He’s now got an eight-second gap to Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari behind, is he going to take a first podium of his career and an absolutely unthinkable result for Sauber?

What a story that would be! Piastri holds onto second-place.

Lap 42/52: Lewis Hamilton pits

Lewis Hamilton’s intermediate tyres have dropped off the cliff and Lewis Hamilton comes in for the soft tyres.

Lance Stroll, Max Verstappen, Pierre Gasly, Carlos Sainz and Oliver Bearman all come into the pits too… Is the crossover point here now?

It doesn’t seem like it as Charles Leclerc goes straight through into fourth place. That won’t be making the Brit particularly happy after he ran wide into Turn 1.

It’s still very wet in Silverstone.

Lap 40/52: Huge spin for George Russell!

George Russell is lucky not to crash as he loses the rear of his Mercedes on the entry to Maggotts and goes spinning towards the wall and through the gravel.

He and Fernando Alonso are now running 13th and 14th, putting Pierre Gasly up to sixth! Lewis Hamilton is still sizing up Nico Hulkenberg’s Sauber ahead in their battle for the podium.

Lando Norris is closing in on Oscar Piastri for the lead but he does not need to take any risks with his McLaren teammate currently carrying a 10-second time penalty as things stand.

Lap 39/52: George Russell pits!

George Russell pits for slick tyres and takes the hards as he tries to respond to Fernando Alonso, who has lost a lot of lap-time.

It doesn’t seem as though it’s quite ready for the slicks yet – but when the crossover is here they are going to be absolutely rapid.

Ferrari and Sauber have got to make sure they react.

Lap 38/52: Hamilton within DRS!

Lewis Hamilton is on for his first podium for Ferrari as the Brit gets into DRS range of Nico Hulkenberg’s Sauber, could he be on for a 13th-consecutive podium at Silverstone?

Fernando Alonso comes into the pits and pulls the trigger on some slick tyres – these laps from the Spanish Aston Martin driver will be absolutely critical for the rest of the field!

Is the crossover point here now?

Lap 36/52: Great racing by Pierre Gasly

Pierre Gasly is out of position as he tries to fight off George Russell and Fernando Alonso in Silverstone and he’s doing a great job at the 2025 British GP!

He defends from the Mercedes around the outside of Copse and also manages to keep that gap for the Alpine too.

Russell is in DRS, however.

Lap 34/52: Hulkenberg up to third!

Nico Hulkenberg is up to the podium place and in third at this 2025 British Grand Prix as he blasts past Lance Stroll’s Aston Martin with DRS down the Hangar Straight.

Lewis Hamilton then follows through into the first corner and he’s now up to fourth, chasing down the Sauber for his first podium for Ferrari.

Which one will land the final spot behind Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri?

Lap 32/52: Track drying says Aston Martin

Lance Stroll’s race engineer tells him the track is beginning to dry, meaning there could be a potential crossover at some stage within the last 20 laps.

The inters will grain up, and DRS will be enabled, which could put the Aston Martin under pressure from Nico Hulkenberg’s Sauber – the German chasing his first ever podium.

But they have to content with Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari, who is on the charge and just 2.5 seconds behind. This could be a box office ending at Silverstone.

Lap 29/52: Norris keeping tabs on Piastri

Lando Norris knows that all he has to do to win this race is match Oscar Piastri’s lap times and keep it on the road and that’s exactly what he’s doing with the gap stabilising at 3.6 seconds.

That 10-second time penalty for Piastri will put him into the lead as Lewis Hamilton overtakes Pierre Gasly for fifth in Silverstone.

Is Hamilton on for a podium? It will be a 13th-consecutive one at the 2025 British GP and a first of his Ferrari career.

He’s got to catch Nico Hulkenberg and Lance Stroll ahead, who are around four seconds up the road in the rainy conditions.

Lap 27/52: McLaren contest penalty as Tsunoda collects 10 seconds

Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda has also collected a 10-second time penalty for causing a collision, although we haven’t seen that incident yet.

McLaren confirm they are protesting the penalty handed to Oscar Piastri, with Zak Brown insisting it looked worse on TV than how it actually is but that might not wash with the stewards.

Piastri will retain second at the moment from Lance Stroll, whilst Lewis Hamilton gets past George Russell’s Mercedes for sixth. He’s now chasing down Pierre Gasly’s Alpine.

Lap 25/52: Penalty for Piastri as Hamilton makes mistake

Oscar Piastri collects a 10-second time penalty for how he chose to brake under the safety car, almost causing Max Verstappen to hit the back of him at the 2025 British Grand Prix. That essentially puts Lando Norris into the lead.

Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, runs wide at the exit of Copse and that lets George Russell through into Maggotts.

“This car is so snappy mate,” complains the seven-time world champion, who is currently running in seventh place behind Russell, Gasly, Hulkenberg, Stroll, Norris and Piastri.

Lap 23/52: Oscar Piastri drops Lando Norris

Lando Norris is already three seconds behind Oscar Piastri as the championship leader stretches his muscles at the 2025 British Grand Prix, with Lance Stroll in third place for Aston Martin!

Can he hold onto that spot? That would be a phenomenal result for the team at their home race in Silverstone.

Lap 22/52: MAJOR ERROR FROM VERSTAPPEN

Max Verstappen drops it at the safety car restart as they run to the Vale chicane! That is a horrendous mistake from the defending world champion!

He is down to 10th and 12.3 seconds off the lead, that is shocking from the Red Bull driver and he is out of contention for this race win without a lot of luck!

Oscar Piastri could be in trouble for braking aggressively under the safety car as Verstappen had to avoid running into the back of the Australian.

WATCH: Hadjar hits Antonelli

This is how Isack Hadjar ran into the back of Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli in Silverstone.

You can see the lack of visibility and it led to a rookie mistake for the French-Algerian Racing Bulls driver.

Lap 20/52: Your order under another safety car

Oscar Piastri leads from Max Verstappen with Lando Norris in third as the championship-contending trio prepare to lead the field away again when the safety car is eventually called back into the pit lane.

Then comes Lance Stroll in fourth at the 2025 British Grand Prix, followed by Nico Hulkenberg, Pierre Gasly, Lewis Hamilton, George Russell and Fernando Alonso in the Top 10.

Kimi Antonelli comes through the pit lane again for new inters, likely to check how his diffuser is through the pit-box. He might be forced to retire with this loss of performance.

SAFETY CAR: Isack Hadjar out of the race

Racing Bulls’ Isack Hadjar has no visibility and runs into the back of Kimi Antonelli in a straight line, runing his suspension and heading g out of the race.

Antonelli in the Mercedes manages to get away with it and he is now down in 15th.

Esteban Ocon finally pits and he drops to the bottom of the order as the safety car is deployed once again in Silverstone.

Lap 18/52: Contact for Russell and Ocon

George Russell gets past Lewis Hamilton but then runs into the side of Esteban Ocon as the Ferrari of Hamilton goes back through at Silverstone.

It doesn’t seem like there’s any serious damage and the trio are continuing on with Piastri 2.6 seconds in the lead from Max Verstappen.

Lap 17/52: Check out how hard it is to see

The safety car is IN this lap but check out how hard it is to actually see at the moment.

Oscar Piastri will lead the field away ahead of Max Verstappen and Lando Norris in the Top 3

Lap 15/52: Still under the safety car

The rain has stopped but the track is still very wet at the 2025 British Grand Prix, kicking up an intense wave of spray even at the slower speeds.

It’s unclear how long this SC will actually last, but it doesn’t seem as though there will be a red flag now.

It’s up to the race director when we get running again.

Lap 13/52: The rain is pouring it down in Silverstone

Lewis Hamilton thinks it’s time for full wets in Silverstone as he drops behind Pierre Gasly’s Alpine and the full safety car is out.

The FIA will now stop the race and try to protect anyone from getting hurt, something very common throughout this ground effect era.

Oscar Piastri’s 13-second lead will now be wiped out. Lance Stroll, Nico Hulkenberg, Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon could all cash in large if this becomes a red flag.

Lap 11/52: Error by Verstappen!

Max Verstappen can’t keep up the pace for much longer and he runs wide at the exit of Becketts as he tries to fend off Lando Norris.

The McLaren is now up to second and pits but a slow stop means he drops back behind the Red Bull!

Oscar Piastri will be happy to find out he’s got the Dutchman back behind him again.

They’re on the intermediates once again as Lewis Hamilton also pits too.

The Top 10: Piastri, Verstappen, Albon, Norris, Ocon, Stroll, Hulkenberg, Hamilton, Gasly and Alonso.

Lap 10/52: Norris close to Verstappen

Lando Norris is now just outside of DRS range of the Red Bull of Max Verstappen.

The Dutchman tells his team if it rains hard that he wants to pit for new tyres.

Keep your eyes on how this race picture will unfold in Silverstone as the rain arrives!

Lap 9/52: Piastri checks out

Oscar Piastri is now two seconds clear of Max Verstappen and Lando Norris needs to pass the Red Bull quickly if he wants to keep his hopes at the British Grand Prix alive.

The Brit is running in third and is already five seconds behind his papaya teammate, but he has a healthy margin to Lewis Hamilton behind.

Charles Leclerc and Kimi Antonelli are having a great battle too that ends when the Ferrari uses DRS to blast past the Mercedes at the Hangar Straight, who pits at the end of the lap for inters!

Lap 8/52: VSC ends in Silverstone

Max Verstappen gets the green flag running away again at the 2025 British Grand Prix and he’s immediately under pressure from Oscar Piastri again!

The McLaren has a look into Brooklands but backs out, he is in DRS though and he uses that to blast by on the Hangar Straight to take the lead of the race!

WATCH: Chaos at the start

That race start would have made excellent drama for Brad Pitt’s Formula 1 film as Max Verstappen led the field away at Silverstone.

Check out the action below:

Lap 5/52: Piastri all over Verstappen

Max Verstappen is struggling without that extra downforce on the rear wing and Oscar Piastri wants the lead of the 2025 British Grand Prix, he’s all over the Red Bull but can’t make a move yet…

And the Dutchman gets a reprieve from the McLaren as the virtual safety car is back out for Gabriel Bortoleto’s retirement in the green Sauber.

George Russell and Kimi Antonelli have swapped places, putting the Brit up to 13th on the hard tyre.

Lap 4/52: VSC ends – We are back to green

The virtual safety car ends and Max Verstappen leads Oscar Piastri away again but the safety car is almost immediately out as Gabriel Bortoleto hits the wall!

The Brazilian keeps the car going but it does not seem ready for the slick tyres yet.

More rain is due on Lap 15 according to Aston Martin, the leaders will try to make it to the new water!

LEADER: Verstappen – Piastri, Norris, Hamilton, Gasly, Alonso, Sainz, Albon, Tsunoda and Hulkenberg in the Top 10.

We’ve lost Liam Lawson, Franco Colapinto and Gabriel Bortoleto from the race now with DNFs.

Lap 3/52: Antonelli pits

Kimi Antonelli also pits for fresh tyres under the virtual safety car but runs wide at the exit of the third corner.

It seems as though Mercedes think slick tyres are right, but will they be rewarded in Silverstone?

It doesn’t seem quite ready to make the switch yet.

VIRTUAL SAFETY CAR: Lap 2/52

Liam Lawson is OUT of the 2025 British Grand Prix and the virtual safety car is deployed to slow drivers down by 40%.

The hope is the marshals can recover the stricken Racing Bulls car before without the use of a full safety car.

That’s a big reprieve for Lando Norris, who was under serious pressure by Lewis Hamilton.

LIGHTS OUT: Verstappen leads

George Russell and Charles Leclerc pit for slick tyres at the end of the formation lap in a major gamble for the Mercedes and Ferrari driver.

But Max Verstappen nails his start when the lights go out and fends off the McLaren cars into Turn 1 and beyond.

Lewis Hamilton is looking punchy, he’s close to Lando Norris in third place as the McLaren just fends off the older Brit!

There’s a yellow flag for the Racing Bull of Liam Lawson, who seems as though he will be out of the race.

Replays show Esteban Ocon in the Haas hit the Kiwi, who actually did well to keep the car out of the wall. It seems as though Lawson turned in too early.

Which tyres are available?

Check out which compounds the drivers have available to push to the chequered flag if they opt for the slick tyres at the 2025 British Grand Prix.

It’s a very mirrored strategy at the front in terms of tyre allocation.

SAFETY CAR START: FIA makes decision

The formation lap will begin behind the safety car with the FIA feeling it’s not safe enough for a rolling start.

That’s a bit controversial with the track looking largely dry, although drivers are on the intermediates.

Standing starts are one of the best parts of the weekend, fans won’t be happy about that.

Red Bull will be delighted as the laps tick down with their man in the lead.

What are the potential strategies this Sunday?

A one-stop is usually the quickest way to the chequered flag around Silverstone due to the massive amount of time spent in the pit-lane, one of the longest on the calendar.

That prompts drivers away from the idea of a two-stopper, but it is possible – especially if there is rain as drivers try to find the right tyre at the perfect moment.

Check out the strategies below:

Your starting grid for the F1 2025 British Grand Prix

It’s Max Verstappen on pole but how lines up behind the Red Bull star for the F1 2025 British Grand Prix at Silverstone?

Find out the full order below with just five minutes until lights out as Franco Colapinto starts from the pit lane for Alpine!

Papaya duels or papaya rules for McLaren?

McLaren treated the paddock to a thrilling battle during the Austrian GP, one race after the pair ran into each other in Canada, leading to a DNF for Lando Norris.

So will Zak Brown and Andrea Stella insist the pair hold position from second and third on the grid as they chase down Red Bull’s Max Verstappen?

Or are the championship protagonists going to be free to race in rainy weather in Silverstone?

What can Lewis Hamilton do from fifth on the grid?

Roscoe is back in the paddock and could Lewis Hamilton’s bulldog be a good luck charm for the 40-year-old at this 2025 British Grand Prix as he looks for a record 10th win today?

A late mistake cost him the chance to line up next to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen but with wet/mixed conditions at Silverstone, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion could thrive as he did in 2024.

PIT LANE OPENS: 30 minutes to lights out

It’s the intermediate tyres for the lap-to-the-grid after a rainy morning at Silverstone, but will that be the tyre of choice when the blankets come off at the 10-minute signal?

Stay tuned with Total-Motorsport.com to find out the answer as we keep you updated with live coverage of the 2025 British Grand Prix as Max Verstappen starts on pole ahead of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.

WATCH: Max Verstappen’s excellent pole lap

He’s a four-time Formula 1 world champion for a reason and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen delivered another outstanding lap to snag his fourth pole position of the 2025 campaign.

Watch how he did it below:

Welcome to the blog!

The 2025 British Grand Prix promises to be a classic with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen on pole position ahead of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. Can the defending world champion fight off the McLaren cars, aided by slippery straight-line speed?

That might be a tall order with the rain falling at the Silverstone circuit but with a rain master of his talent, it cannot be counted out. Likewise for Lewis Hamilton, who was two tenths off pole but starts from fifth.

After winning in 2024 in the wet, can the seven-time Formula 1 champion wow the crowds again?
