Hello and welcome to this Total Motorsport live blog for Free Practice 3 at the F1 2025 British GP from the iconic Silverstone circuit in the United Kingdom.

With McLaren, Ferrari, and Red Bull all showing flashes of speed across the first two practice sessions, the focus will be on final tweaks as conditions shift and teams simulate their all-important qualifying runs. There’s particular intrigue over how Max Verstappen and Red Bull will respond after a tricky Friday, with the Dutchman looking for answers to his car’s balance and understeer issues.

Meanwhile, Mercedes are searching for extra pace to move up the order, and home favourite George Russell will be hoping to ignite the Silverstone crowd with a late surge. Lewis Hamilton is also firmly in the spotlight as he seeks an unprecedented 10th home victory, and his comments after FP2 suggested that the Ferrari is “in the mix” and feeling strong.

Total-Motorsport.com’s F1 2025 British GP live updates for Free Practice 3 will bring you real-time news, team developments, and more on-track clues for the weekend ahead. Stay with us as we bring you all the latest from FP3 at Silverstone.

F1 British GP 2025 Free Practice 3 LIVE: Latest Updates

Your FP3 results

Among those crashes, the timing sheet became something of an afterthought. It was Leclerc who stayed in P1 with a 1:25.498, but there is just over a tenth separating the top four cars. Tsunoda will be pleased to have ended up in P5, whilst Hamilton and the Mercedes are lower than their real pace as they missed the chance to get a final flying lap in before the red flags.

You can see the full set of FP3 results below, and we’ll be back for coverage of what should be a fascinating qualifying session later on.

Bearman crashes

The end to this session has been bizarre. On his way into the pits, Bearman locked up at the pit entry and took the front wing off of his Haas. He was attacking the entry of the pit lane before he slammed the breaks on, and that could land him in trouble with the steward given the track was under red flag conditions.

RED FLAG: End of FP3

Gabriel Bortoleto has had a crash and that’s another red flag, signalling the end of FP3. There is a lot of damage to that Sauber, so they have a job on their hands before Qualifying. Bortoleto is out of the car and appears fine.

It appears that the Brazilian lost control at Maggots and Becketts, and then the adventure over the bumpy grass has dislodged a wheel and will have done plenty of damage. He managed to avoid the barries, but the car looks like it has hit the barries.

5 minutes to go

We should be back underway in around a minute. That piece of bodywork came from Ollie Bearman’s Haas on contact with a kerb.

RED FLAG

There are around 8 minutes to go here but we have a red flag. A part has come off a car and is sent on the entry to Stowe. Leclerc has gone quickest once again, and Hamilton had just started a flying lap when the red flag came down.

13 minutes to go

Verstappen has just wrestled his Red Bull around the track and splits the McLaren’s, going +0.019 slower than Piastri. At the same time, Tsunoda has put a good lap together and moves up to P5. The last 10 minutes have turned Qualifying into even more of a mystery.

16 minutes to go

The McLaren’s have firmly arrived. Norris and Piastri both popped some softs onto their cars and immediately go P1 and P2, with Piastri leading the way as he went +0.040 quicker than his teammate. We wait to see if if the likes of the Ferrari’s, Russell and Verstappen can respond.

19 minutes to go

Russell has found a bit more pace in his Mercedes and moves up to P2. There is still two tenths between Leclerc and P2, though, so the Monegasque driver is sitting pretty. As we say that, he almost drops his Ferrari whilst warming up the tyres.

24 minutes to go

A few drivers getting angsty with one another as they all seek to get some proper quali simulation laps in. Verstappen has a sarcastic thumbs-up for Gasly, whilst Albon is less than impressed with Stroll’s positioning. Verstappen is complaining about his brake bias, saying it feels like a handbrake at the moment.

Leclerc now reporting a ‘little bit of rain’ at Copse.

33 minutes to go

Leclerc has really come alive now. He has just gone five tenths quicker than his previous P1 lap time. Verstappen has crossed the line again and also improved, but the gap to Leclerc is now +0.244 which is more considerable. The McLaren’s sit P6 and P7 right now which is not what they’d like, we’ll wait to see if they’re keeping something in reserve.

36 minutes to go

Max Verstappen has posted a lap time which is a bit more like it from a Red Bull perspective. Charles Leclerc is currently fastest but Verstappen has gone just +0.005 slower than the Ferrari. Hamilton is incredibly close behind, whilst Russell is only just over a tenth off P1. Plenty of very similar lap times being posted now among the front runners.

43 minutes to go

Now things are getting a bit busier. Almost everybody is now out on track, with the softs being the tyre of choice. We should start to see some hot laps now from the cars that we’re expecting to see battle it out for pole position this afternoon. Lando Norris has begun a flying lap, after waving to his fans on the outlap.

48 minutes to go

Lewis Hamilton is out on track now and after his second flying lap, he goes quickest with a 1:27.351. This is a very quiet session so far with only three cars on track right now and the majority having not been out at all.

58 minutes to go

After that short delay, we do now have some cars on track as the Alpine’s have gotten out very quickly. Weather could be a big factor today as the track is looking much darker and cooler than it was yesterday for the first two practice sessions. Most of the drivers are staying in the garage for now.

FP3 delayed

There’s going to be a five minute delay to FP3 here. There is ‘excessive marbling’ on the track from an earlier session and the marshals are currently sweeping it all away as quickly as they can.

Can Ferrari back up their early pace?

We’re just 10 minutes away from FP3 now, and this is where we’ll get a more clear indication as to who really has the pace around Silverstone. The Ferrari fans have every right to feel optimistic given Lewis Hamilton topped FP1, and both Ferrari’s looked very quick in FP1 and FP2.

That being said, Lando Norris produced a storming lap on the softs in FP2 and topped that session, so there is evidence to suggest that he could still keep these Ferrari’s at bay if he has to.
