F1 Belgian GP 2025 LIVE: Latest Updates
OSCAR PIASTRI WINS 2025 BELGIAN GRAND PRIX
Oscar Piastri ends his tricky run of form and extends his championship lead with an excellent victory at the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix.
He took the lead away from Lando Norris at the first time of asking when the running finally goy underway amid rainy conditions and from there he did not look back.
More from the Singapore GP
Catch up with Total Motorsport's latest Singapore GP coverage, including Max Verstappen's victory at Marina Bay, Ferrari's costly strategy gamble, the full race classification, and the updated 2026 Formula 1 Drivers' and Constructors' Championship standings.
Not only quick, he was also in full command of his tyres and proved to be masterfully error-free as he did just enough to repel his fast-charging teammate behind.
Superb stuff from the Australian as he leads home a McLaren 1-2 in Spa!
Lap 43/44: Verstappen at 1.6 to Leclerc
Max Verstappen doesn’t seem as though he’s going to challenge Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc for the final spot on the podium either.
The gap is at 1.6 seconds and it’s pretty stable so it seems as though the Red Bull man is set to miss out this time.
Lap 42/44: Big, big lap for Lando Norris
This is it for Lando Norris, it’s his last big chance to try to put a challenge to Oscar Piastri and get into DRS range but he locks up into Turn 1!
What was a three-second gap now leaps to 4.4 and that should be the race over. Piastri has done a brilliant job today.
Lap 41/44: Gap at 3.7 to Piastri
Oscar Piastri now holds a 3.7-second gap to Lando Norris behind but that number is falling down ever so slightly.
Can the McLaren driver do enough to fend off his teammate? There could be a slightly element of rain in those final embers too.
This is intense!
Lap 40/44: Norris hounding down Piastri
Lando Norris is now close to a second a lap faster than Oscar Piastri but does he have he enough to catch the McLaren ahead?
The gap is down to 4.2 seconds as they make their ways through back marker traffic respectively.
This is going to be a tight finish.
Lap 39/44: Verstappen just out of DRS range
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen is just outside of DRS range at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps as he looks to chase down Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari.
The Monegasque driver has a 1.2-second advantage and he’s not impressed with his engineer telling him the gap over and over as he snaps at him to leave him alone.
There’s only a few laps to go now: Who finishes third?
Lap 38/44: Norris slowly catching Piastri
Lando Norris is now 6.1 seconds behind Oscar Piastri but it seems as though this race is slowly starting to slip away from the McLaren driver.
That is unless those medium tyres on Piastri’s car suddenly fall off, which could bring the Brit into play.
However, so far that doesn’t appear as though it’s happening.
Lap 37/44: Hamilton struggling with lift-and-coast
Lewis Hamilton is being told to lift-and-coast be his race engineer and it seems as though it’s repelling any prospect of overtaking Alex Albon’s Williams.
It could be rot protect the wooden plank on the car, which caught the team out at the Sprint Race weekend in China back in April.
Is he working to avoid a disqualification risk?
Lap 36/44: Potential fight for the podium?
Max Verstappen is still just 2.5 seconds behind Charles Leclerc as the pair continue racing to the chequered flag over third place.
Can the Red Bull slowly pull in the Ferrari? Is it possible for him to snatch the last podium spot? It’s one to keep an eye on in the dying embers of this race.
Lap 34/44: Big mistake from Norris
Lando Norris has a big lock-up into Turn 1 and loses around six tenths to Oscar Piastri, who now leads by eight seconds.
Unless those medium tyres fall off sharpish, it seems as though the Australian has done just enough to win this 2025 Belgian Grand Prix at this rate.
Both are now firmly committed to the one-stop plan.
Lap 33/44: Albon fending off Hamilton
Alex Albon has just enough top speed in the Williams to fend off Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari, who is sitting tight in DRS range of the Williams car.
Meanwhile Nico Hulkenberg pits again for Sauber and drops out of the Top 10, running in 15th now.
That’s a gamble from the German. Will it work as he looks to fight his way back up the order?
Lap 32/44: Piastri about to hit back markers
Oscar Piastri leads Lando Norris by 7.8 seconds as his teammate slowly edges closer at this 2025 Belgian Grand Prix.
Bad news for the championship leader? He’s about to hit some backmarkers and that could slow him down.
He does have the option to two-stop, but the laps are starting to run out to make that tactic work.
Lap 31/44: Hamilton honing in on Albon as Antonelli pits
Lewis Hamilton’s putting his foot back down as he looks to chase after Alex Albon for 6th place and the seven-time world champion is back in DRS range of the Williams ahead.
Meanwhile Kimi Antonelli pits for a set of new medium tyres on the Mercedes and comes back out into this race in 16th place.
Can that fresh rubber help him move up the running order at Spa?
Lap 29/44: Small mistake from Norris
Replays show Lando Norris running wide at the Pouhon corner as he loses around a second to Oscar Piastri, although he has now brought back around 0.7 over the previous two laps.
The gap is now at 8.8 seconds. Norris will need those tyres to fall off soon on his teammate’s car if he hopes to win this 2025 Belgian Grand Prix.
Will it happen? Which side of the garage got their strategy right?
Lap 28/44: Sainz pits for new hards
Carlos Sainz pits for a set of the hard tyres as he looks to break free from a DRS train at this 2025 Belgian Grand Prix.
He’s now 19th and is 16 seconds behind Esteban Ocon’s Haas ahead, but has fresher rubber. If the mediums fall off the cliff then he could be very quick in the final portions.
Will anyone from the front runners gamble on a second stop? The gaps are slowly opening up, but the laps are slowly running away too.
Lap 26/44: What’s the gap between Norris and Piastri?
Oscar Piastri continues to lead this 2025 Belgian Grand Prix. He’s 9.1 seconds ahead of Lando Norris, who currently holds the fastest lap.
And crucially, the Aussie has enough of a gap to be able to come into the pits and change for some new tyres if he feels as though he needs them.
Piastri’s on the mediums, which are quicker over shorter distances than the hard tyres.
Lap 24/44: Order settles down just after halfway
The running order has plateaued right now as everyone focuses on managing their medium tyres to the end of the race, with the exception of Lando Norris and Isack Hadjar on the hard compounds.
Nobody in the Top 10 is within DRS range of the car ahead, highlighting just how important free air is and protecting those tyres at the moment.
Piastri leads from Norris, then comes: Leclerc, Verstappen, Russell, Albon, Hamilton, Lawson, Bortoleto and Hulkenberg in the top 10.
Lap 22/44: Potential two-stopper for Oscar Piastri?
Oscar Piastri concedes a bit of degradation is beginning to hit his medium tyres.
That’s good news for Lando Norris in second and bad news for the Aussie.
Could he switch to a two-stop strategy at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps today? That will hand his teammate the lead and put the order of chasing down his colleague on him.
Lap 20/44: Couple of changes in the order
Gabriel Bortoleto petitions for team orders with Sauber, feeling he’s much quicker than Nico Hulkenberg ahead. The order comes through and the green car swap into Turn 5. They’re chasing Liam Lawson.
Kimi Antonelli, meanwhile, breezes past Franco Colapinto on the back-straight for 15th place in the Mercedes.
Lap 18/44: Expect Piastri gap to fall
Oscar Piastri is running the medium tyre and will try to one-stop at the Circuit de Spa, something he may need to manage his tyres and lose some speed to make sure he gets to the end.
Lando Norris, on the hard tyres, should be happy to push to his own contentment. Expect the 8.4-second gap to come down.
They might even duel for the lead on the track.
Lap 17/44: Verstappen angry with Red Bull
Max Verstappen says clipping at the end of the Kemmel Straight is very frustrating to him as he looks to try to catch Charles Leclerc for the final podium spot, whilst fending off George Russell behind.
Clipping is when the battery deploys all of its energy too soon, and is happening due to the now dry and faster lap times from the rainy conditions earlier today.
Red Bull will work to solve that through setting adjustments.
Lap 16/44: Hamilton chasing down Albon
Lewis Hamilton is now looking to hunt down Alex Albon for sixth place at Spa and he’s within DRS range of the Williams ahead.
If he gets past the Thai-Brit then he could find himself in the mix for the podium – that seemed unthinkable after his Q1 exit on Saturday!
Phenomenal stuff from the 40-year-old.
Lap 15/44: Your order through the pit stops
Oscar Piastri continues to lead this 2025 Belgian Grand Prix by nearly 10 seconds to his teammate on the fresher medium tyre. Lando Norris will hope his hard tyres pay him back later on.
Then comes Charles Leclerc ahead of Max Verstappen and George Russell. Then there is Albon, Hamilton, Lawson, Hulkenberg and Bortoleto in the Top 10.
This has been a thrilling start at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
Lap 14/44: Norris pits for hard tyres!
Lando Norris responds to the cars behind and keeps hold of second place but he’s on the hard tyres.
He’s trying to do something different to his teammate by one-stopping, it’s a bold call but will it work?
Oscar Piastri leads by nearly seven seconds now.
Lap 13/44: Oscar Piastri pits from the lead!
Oscar Piastri, Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen all peel into the pit lane as DRS is enabled in Spa!
It’s slick tyres time and Lando Norris could be poised to lose big time! He has to stay out since he was too close to his teammate!
Does he have just enough life in those inters to defend second place from the cars behind?
Lap 12/44: Lewis Hamilton pits!
Lewis Hamilton is the first driver to come into the pits and he takes the medium tyres from 13th place.
Will he be able to gain an advantage on the fresh rubber or is it going to be a bit too early? Nico Hulkenberg, Pierre Gasly and Fernando Alonso all also pit.
The Ferrari is back out in 17th. Let’s watch how this goes…
Lap 11/44: Mistake from Leclerc – but he gets away with it!
Charles Leclerc runs wide at the exit of Turn 1 and that lets Max Verstappen close down the Kemmel Straight but the Ferrari has just enough top speed to repel the Red Bull behind.
He thinks his tyres are finished, could the man from Monaco be the first into the pits? His rear tyres aren’t looking too great and traction is absolutely key.
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have checked out from this pair, they’re losing over a second a lap to the McLaren cars.
Lap 10/44: No way through for Verstappen
Max Verstappen certainly has a lot more pace than Charles Leclerc at the moment but he can’t overtake the Ferrari man as things stand.
He thinks about a run into Pouhon but wisely backs off. The Red Bull man is now 7.6 seconds behind the McLarens.
A chance for the win is getting away…
Lap 10/44: Hamilton up to 13th 👀
Lewis Hamilton now dives to the inside of Pierre Gasly’s Alpine at Turn 14 and that’s another man out of the way for the Ferrari driver.
Are we seeing a wet weather special today? He’s now up to 13th and will need to chase down Oliver Bearman’s Haas ahead if he wants to get into 12th.
The slick tyre cross over might be on the horizon too, watch for someone coming into the pits…
Lap 9/44: Two more for the price of one for Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton looks very, very punchy today as he picks off Franco Colapinto’s Alpine and Nico Hulkenberg’s Sauber within one lap.
The seven-time world champion looks rapid and he’s now up to 14th place.
How far up this order can he get at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps?
Lap 8/44: Hamilton past Sainz
Lewis Hamilton dives to the inside of Carlos Sainz’s Williams at the Bus Stop Chicane and that’s the Brit up to 16th in this race, moving past the former Ferrari man.
Meanwhile Kimi Antonelli skips across the chicane after out-braking himself but he doesn’t gain an advantage and race control isn’t particularly interested in that.
Piastri leads by 1.2 seconds.
Lap 7/44: Race critical overtake needed from Verstappen
Max Verstappen is stuck to the gearbox of Charles Leclerc but he can’t quite overtake the Ferrari for the moment.
If he wants to get into the battle with the McLarens ahead then it’s race-critical for the Red Bull to get up to third now.
Leclerc is already 2.2 seconds behind Lando Norris and 3.5 behind Oscar Piastri.
Lap 6/44: Russell up to 5th
This might have got very interesting as George Russell dives to the inside of Alex Albon in the Williams to take fifth place for Mercedes.
He’s now right behind Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, this could be a great battle if he can get into the mix too.
Down the order, Lewis Hamilton moves past Lance Stroll for 17th.
Lap 5/44: Problem for Norris?
Lando Norris questions why he had an insufficient amount of energy from his battery as Oscar Piastri swoops straight by and takes the lead of the race.
McLaren tell him they used too much of it during the safety car restart and that it will be coming back to him now.
Not what the Brit needed in his championship rival with his teammate!
GREEN FLAG: Racing in Spa!
Lando Norris bolts just ahead of Stavelot and the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix is officially underway with Oscar Piastri chasing down his McLaren teammate.
And Piastri pulls to the side on the Kemmel Straight and instantly takes the lead at the first opportunity in Spa!
Oscar Piastri leadas from Lando Norris, then Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen in the Top 4.
Lap 4/44: 10% race distance now
The laps are ticking away in Spa and the track does seem as though it’s ready for racing.
Will the FIA decide to get the action underway at the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix?
The FIA confirms it WILL be a rolling start.
Lap 3/44: Norris has complaints
Lando Norris says the right-hand side of the grid is too wet as he moves over to try to clear standing water away.
That is the side of the grid that he will start the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix from and it’s no wonder that he wants to make sure that side of the track is cleared up.
If it’s a standing start then he will be at a massive disadvantage compared to his teammate.
Lap 2/44: Second lap begins
Oscar Piastri says the visibility out of Eau Rouge is fine but the rest of the lap is quite problematic at the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix.
The safety car continues on around the Circuit de Spa.
Let’s see if we can get some racing soon.
Lap 1/44: The Belgian Grand Prix officially gets underway
The laps are going to start ticking down now as running gets underway behind the safety car at this 2025 Belgian Grand Prix.
It’s Lando Norris on pole ahead of Oscar Piastri. Both McLarens and the rest of us are waiting to get some green flag action at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
Let’s see how this goes.
Five minutes to go: Minimum of two laps behind the safety car
Peter Bonnington tells Kimi Antonelli that there will be two laps behind the safety car and then race control will decide whether they want to get the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix underway or not.
If the visibility is considered too dangerous then they will probably come back into the pit-lane and they’ll be waiting once again.
10 minutes to go: Your grid for the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix
We have four cars from the pit-lane as Fernando Alonso, Kimi Antonelli, Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz start from the back in Spa.
Whilst at the front it’s Lando Norris on pole ahead of his McLaren teammate, Oscar Piastri. Then comes Charles Leclerc and what can Max Verstappen do from fourth on the grid in these conditions?
We’re almost ready to go again.
Start time for 2025 Belgian Grand Prix confirmed!
The FIA have issued a notice up and down the paddock stating that racing will resume at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps at 16:20 local time in Belgium.
That’s in 14 minutes from now!
We’re almost ready to go for the 2025 Belgian GP.
Medical car on track!
The medical car is out on track to test the conditions and fans are going crazy in the stands as a high-performance car finally hits the Circuit de Spa.
Could the start of the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix be close now?
We’ll find out the verdict once it comes back into the pit-lane at the end of the running.
Update from the FIA amid rainy Spa
It does now seem as though we will get some running at the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix as the FIA releases a statement saying that the priority is to clear away some of the standing water.
It’s unclear how long that will take but it does leave a lot of time for cars to get running at the Circuit de Spa. Will Lando Norris be able to fend off Oscar Piastri?
“We anticipate the rain to stop at 4pm (3pm UK time),” the FIA said in a statement. “We will then target a start as soon as the standing water has been cleared from the track.”
It’s good news for fans hoping to see racing in Spa
The Haas team principal, Ayao Komatsu, believes once the grid waits out this spell of rain then the session should continue uninterrupted for the remainder of the afternoon.
That means we could see some genuine running at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps today. It should not be a repeat of the infamously cancelled 2021 race.
“What we see after this rain is we should have a clear window to start the race,” Komatsu tells Sky Sports F1. “So far, we haven’t seen anything behind this [band of rain].”
Pierre Gasly predicts running in 15-20 minutes
What “running” actually entails is open to interpretation at this 2025 Belgian Grand Prix. Is that simply laps behind the safety car?
Or is it some green flag running and wheel-to-wheel action at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps on this Sunday?
Lando Norris will be hoping racing is delayed for as long as possible since he’s on pole ahead of his championship rival.
McLaren expect no running for 40 minutes
McLaren’s Tom Stallard tells Oscar Piastri that he doesn’t expect any running for the next 40 minutes as the next wave of rain hits the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, before the FIA has to wait to determine whether the conditions could be good enough to race.
If you’ve got some shopping to do before the stores close in the UK on this Sunday, now is probably the best time to make a dash for it…
Expect a long delay in Spa
There is more rain due in around five to 10 minutes and the race has already been suspended for too much water on the track.
So expect the cars to be sitting in the pit-lane for quite sometime before they will be allowed to get back running in Belgium.
This has all the hallmarks of the infamous 2021 race. It could be a long afternoon.
RED FLAG: Start of the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix has been aborted
Lando Norris says he can’t see too much from behind the safety car and he’s the first car in the queue so it’s no surprise that the FIA have instantly red-flagged the session.
The cars line up in the pit lane once again and they’ll await further instructions from race control. Expect this to be a theme of the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix.
Formation Lap behind the Safety Car
It’s no surprise that the safety car will be out for the formation lap as drivers and the race control look to ascertain the conditions in Spa.
It’s no surprise that all 20 drivers are running the intermediate tyres.
As mentioned, the full wet tyres aren’t good for much in the modern era.
Watch out for Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso from the back
Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso are known for being quite handy in the wet conditions and although they’re starting from the pit lane, that’s not necessarily a bad thing for the oldest pair of drivers on the grid.
Now able to break parc ferme, they had the chance to go for a full wet weather set-up in anticipation of the rain and that could mean extra grip and the ability to protect their tyres better than those compromised in qualifying.
Will they be able to slice their way through the filed to get back into contention?
Rain is great news for those starting from the pit lane
If this Belgian Grand Prix starts from behind the safety car then the four drivers beginning he race from the pit-lane will effectively have that penalty wiped out.
They will quickly close up to the back of the field and will be able to begin racing quite quickly once green flag conditions are enabled by race control this Sunday.
Those who stand to gain are: Carlos Sainz, Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Antonelli and Fernando Alonso.
RAIN IN SPA: Will FIA delay the start?
The heavens have opened at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and it is pouring down with heavy rain for the start of this 2025 Belgian Grand Prix.
The FIA will probably mandate a rolling start and one behind the safety car, assuming they don’t red flag proceedings. Fans will remember the infamous 2021 race.
With the wet tyres effectively useless with this generation of Formula 1 car, expect it to be the intermediates or pretty much nothing at all except red flags.
Welcome to the blog!
It’s Lando Norris on pole from Oscar Piastri as the two McLaren drivers find themselves poised to do battle around the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps this Sunday.
Can Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc also get into the mix? They start behind the pair on the second row and both have put in impressive drives around here in the past.
