Austrian GP 2025 Weather: Latest forecast for F1 race at Red Bull Ring

Sizzling temperatures could play a vital role in the weekend's F1 action at the Red Bull Ring

-

The Austrian GP 2025 weather forecast is pointing toward a hot and mostly dry race weekend as Formula 1 heads to the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg for Round 11 of the season. June in this part of Austria is normally warm and sunny, and current predictions suggest the entire Grand Prix weekend could be scorching hot.

Drivers and teams are paying close attention to the sky, knowing that conditions can heavily affect tire performance and car cooling. With the Styrian Alps surrounding the circuit, many are wondering whether any surprise rain might hit the track or if clear skies will prevail throughout.

At around 700 meters above sea level, the Red Bull Ring’s altitude has been known to contribute to unpredictable weather swings. In past years, sudden mountain showers have occasionally spiced up the action in Spielberg. However, according to official forecasts, a hot and stable spell of weather awaits the teams this time.

The outlook as of now calls for a warm, dry weekend of running – though as always, forecasts can change on short notice, especially in a region with such variable mountain microclimates. Teams will remain vigilant, as even a small chance of rain could force last-minute strategy adjustments.

The prospect of high temperatures is already a talking point in the paddock. Some teams historically struggle in extreme heat – Mercedes, for example, have often faltered when track temperatures climb due to their car’s cooling limitations. They managed better than expected in a warm race last time out in Canada, but another sweltering weekend will test whether those cooling issues have truly been resolved.

On the other hand, outfits like McLaren tend to thrive in hotter conditions, as their car can be gentler on tires when the track is sizzling. This means that if the forecast holds, we might see certain teams gain a performance edge or face challenges based purely on the temperature.

Full Austrian GP 2025 weather forecast

Here’s how the weather is shaping up for every session of the 2025 Austrian GP weekend at the Red Bull Ring.

Friday – FP1 & FP2

Friday’s practice day is expected to be warm and a bit humid, with conditions starting off under mixed cloud cover and sun. There is a slight chance of a few rain drops in the early morning, but essentially both FP1 and FP2 should stay dry during running. By afternoon the skies will be mostly clear, and ambient temperatures will reach around 28°C, providing plenty of heat on the track.

A light westerly breeze will blow through the Spielberg circuit, with occasional gusts up to roughly 30 kph in the afternoon – enough to be noticed on the straights but not disruptive. Humidity is expected to hover in the 40–50% range, so it may feel a touch muggy early on, but as the sun comes out fully, the air will still be relatively comfortable.

  • Maximum Temperature: 28°C
  • Minimum Temperature: 15°C
  • Chance of Rain: 20% (slight, mainly early)
  • Wind Speed: Light, up to 30 kph gusts
  • Humidity: ~45%

Saturday – FP3 & Qualifying

Any low clouds at dawn will clear quickly, leading to bright skies by late morning and continuing the sunny summer weather into Saturday. FP3 should see temperatures already climbing into the mid-20s°C with clear conditions on track. By the time qualifying kicks off in late afternoon, the mercury will peak around 29°C, and track temperatures will be even higher under the strong sun.

There is virtually no chance of rain on Saturday – not a drop is anticipated all day – so drivers can push to the limit without worrying about sudden downpours. A gentle northwesterly breeze will blow at very low speeds (~5–10 kph), and humidity should drop to around 30% by afternoon, making the heat feel relatively dry.

  • Maximum Temperature: 29°C
  • Minimum Temperature: 15°C
  • Chance of Rain: 0%
  • Wind Speed: Light (~10 kph)
  • Humidity: ~30%

Sunday – Race

Race day Sunday is expected to be the hottest of the weekend, which will push drivers’ endurance to the limit. By the 3:00 pm start time, air temperatures should reach around 31°C, and under direct sun it could feel closer to 33°C on track.

The morning will be sunny; while some clouds might build in the afternoon, the odds of any rainfall are extremely low (well below 20%), with only a brief light shower in late afternoon being a remote possibility.

A light easterly breeze will blow at only about 5–10 kph, and with humidity around 30% the heat will be relatively dry. These factors offer slight relief, but roughly 31°C ambient (and even higher in the cockpit) will still make for a very physically demanding race.

  • Maximum Temperature: 31°C
  • Minimum Temperature: 15°C
  • Chance of Rain: <20% (very low)
  • Wind Speed: Light (5–10 kph)
  • Humidity: ~30%
