F1 2024 Saudi Arabian GP – Practice 1 Results

The 2024 Formula 1 season continues with FP1 at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix with Max Vestappen leading the early running in Jeddah

Max Verstappen topped the timesheet in the opening free practice session for the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, edging out Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin and his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez. After initially trailing MercedesGeorge Russell, Verstappen secured the top spot with a swift 1m 29.659s on his second soft-tyre attempt, ultimately finishing nearly two-tenths ahead of Alonso.

The Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz captured fifth and sixth positions, with Sainz making a timely arrival for the session after an illness absence. McLaren‘s Lando Norris led his team’s efforts in seventh, while Lewis Hamilton and Lance Stroll, despite a minor scrape with the wall, rounded out the top ten performers.

Sauber‘s Valtteri Bottas led his team in 11th, facing stiff competition from Daniel Ricciardo of RB in 12th, who outperformed on medium tyres amidst Alpine’s bid for recovery after a challenging start to the season. The session concluded with notable times from the Williams and McLaren drivers, while Haas drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen, like others, opted for medium tyres, showcasing the strategic diversity in tire choices among the teams.
