Zak Brown makes big world championship claim concerning Oscar Piastri

Oscar Piastri is ninth in the drivers' championship with four events remaining

McLaren CEO Zak Brown believes Oscar Piastri is showing all the signs to suggest he could become a future world champion in Formula 1.

Piastri has impressed hugely in his rookie year, regularly keeping pushing team-mate Lando Norris as the team continue to make great progress with their car.

Both drivers are generally getting the most out of the package and that has seen McLaren overhaul Aston Martin for fourth place in the constructors’ standings by six points after the 2023 United States Grand Prix.

Piastri has certainly started to show exactly why McLaren were so desperate to get him in for 2023, with him winning the Sprint race in Qatar earlier in October.

Zak Brown: Piastri a future world champion

Piastri has arguably been one of the stars of the season thanks to his performances this year in F1, and, alongside Norris, McLaren have a driver line-up that would be the envy of many teams on the grid.

Full focus will be on trying to beat Aston Martin, and maybe Ferrari, for the rest of the year, and then 2024 could be a season that yields even greater success.

“[He’ll be] even more experienced,” Brown told the media. He’s extremely quick, he’s very mature, he’s very technical. He’s very calm: all the things that you’d like to see out of a rookie but you don’t necessarily always see out of a rookie.

“Clearly his pace is fantastic and I suspect his race craft and his tyre management and his race management will only get stronger and stronger as he gets experience. I think people forget, he also sat out last year but he didn’t have much rust on him when it comes to race craft so I think he’s definitely showing every signs of being a potential future world champion.”
