Yuki Tsunoda hits out at stewards after Oscar Piastri incident

Yuki Tsunoda missed out on points after colliding with Oscar Piastri

-

Yuki Tsunoda has criticised the stewards at the 2023 Mexico City Grand Prix for always favouring the big teams after his collision with Oscar Piastri on Sunday.

Tsunoda was on course for a good points haul in Mexico City, alongside AlphaTauri teammate Daniel Ricciardo, only to spin after contact with Pisatri, so finished 12th.

The pair had clashed moments before, but the second incident was the more significant, with Tsunoda looking to sweep around the outside before the pair touched and he came off worse.

“They love top teams so that’s it,” Tsunoda told the media, adding that the fact no action was being taken against the McLaren driver was “as I expected.”

Before that, Tsunoda had shown quite good pace and was working his way up the field, with him starting at the back of the grid following multiple power unit element changes on his AlphaTauri.

A double points finish was on the cards, but instead the Faenza team would have to make do with Ricciardo’s seventh place in just his fourth Formula 1 event back.

“The car pace was as good as we expected,” continued Tsunoda. “I mean, we showed a good performance on Saturday, so it’s a shame that I ended up like that [clashing with Piastri].”
