F1 team bosses respond over ‘personal’ Andretti claims

Andretti's bid to enter F1 has been approved by the FIA but not Formula 1's stakeholders

Several Formula 1 team bosses have given their response after claims that a pushback towards the proposed Andretti-Cadillac entry to the series is ‘personal’.

Andretti, headed up by the eponymous Michael Andretti, are eager to join the F1 grid from as early as 2025, but they have faced a lukewarm reception at best from many of the key stakeholders in the paddock.

Whilst the FIA have been very receptive towards their proposals, a number of the teams have been rather less so, suggesting that now is not the right time for an 11th outfit to join the grid, whilst F1 themselves have also been keen not to be drawn on the matter.

Michael Andretti had labelled the pushback as ‘personal’ and some of F1’s team bosses reacted to the statement.

“I don’t know him,” said Toto Wolff. “I think that his father (Mario) has a fantastic track record. I mean, he’s one of the great names of the sport. I think Andretti, as a racing team, has been doing well in the United States.

“There’s no grudge. If you haven’t really met someone, you can’t have a personal grudge.”

“No, nothing personal,” said Guenther Steiner. “I know Michael but not very well, obviously. I mean, I met him a few times, but nothing personal.

McLaren CEO Zak Brown added: “I think everybody knows I’m good buddies with Michael. So I’ve got no grudge. I’m partners with him!”

“Same for me,” said Mike Krack. I worked with Michael in Formula E in my previous life, and I can only say good things about Michael and his team.”
