Red Bull driver Sergio Perez snatched pole position for the 2023 Miami GP after he set the quickest time early in Q3 before Charles Leclerc brought an early end to the qualifying session by slamming his Ferrari into the barriers.
Max Verstappen, who is ninth, backed out of his first flying run and as he was set to make one last attempt, Leclerc crashed at Turn 6, bringing out the red flag. As well as Perez, that benefitted Fernando Alonso in the Aston Martin who is second, and Carlos Sainz in the second Ferrari who starts third.
It was disaster for Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes as he failed to make it into Q3 and will start the Miami GP in 13th. Meanwhile things were worse for the two McLaren cars of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri failed to make it out of Q1.
