Mercedes finished a surprise one-two at the end of the first practice session in Miami

    -

George Russell led a surprise Mercedes one-two in the first practice session at the Miami Grand Prix.

In hot weather that is set to make way for rain come race day, the Brit left it late to strap on the soft tyres but made them count, with his 1:30.125 good enough to finish more than two tenths clear of his teammate Lewis Hamilton.

Max Verstappen topped the standings for Red Bull for the majority of the session but finished fourth in the end, with Charles Leclerc rounding out the top three for Ferrari.

Earlier, Nico Hulkenberg showed how easy it is to be caught out by the Miami International Autodrome when he crashed in the Haas and brought out the red flag briefly.
