Charles Leclerc sprung a massive surprise at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez as he was fastest in Qualifying for the 2023 Mexico City Grand Prix and took pole position ahead of his Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen had dominated all three practice sessions, but could only manage third as Ferrari locked out the front row.

Alex Albon couldn’t maintain his practice pace in Qualifying, and had a time deleted in Q2 which would have taken him into the top 10, so starts 14th in the Williams.

Lando Norris was the biggest casualty in Q1 and qualified in 19th position after Fernando Alonso brought out the yellow flag just as the McLaren driver was starting his final flying lap causing him to abort it.
