Red Bull’s Max Verstappen once again showed his prowess around the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez as he topped Free Practice 2 at the 2023 Mexico City Grand Prix.
The Red Bull driver was just 0.119s ahead of Lando Norris’ McLaren, with Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari ending FP2 third. Valtteri Bottas in the Alfa Romeo was a surprise fourth in FP2, ahead of hometown hero Sergio Perez who was fifth.
Lewis Hamilton was the highest placed Mercedes driver in seventh, with George Russell in 10th.
Aston Martin had a poor session with Fernando Alonso spinning while on the soft tyre and Lance Stroll’s front left tyre failed to come off the car leaving the Canadian in the pits for more of the session.
Just minutes into the session, a surprise rain shower drifted over the track, though it never amounted to much and eventually passed without incident, but the weather turned again in the final 10 minutes.
