Carlos Sainz gave the Tifosi plenty of hope ahead of Saturday’s Qualifying session after going quickest in final practice for Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
Sainz, who turned 29 on Friday, was under a tenth ahead of championship leader Max Verstappen and over half a second faster than Lewis Hamilton.
Charles Leclerc went fourth fastest after briefly running into the gravel at the second Lesmo, whilst Fernando Alonso and George Russell enjoyed clean sessions and rounded off the top six.
Sergio Perez spent a period of FP3 watching his Red Bull being worked upon in the garage, costing him valuable track time and dropping him to 10th in the timesheets.
