With Formula 1 back from its summer break, Max Verstappen set the quickest time in Free Practice 1 at the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix as Red Bull show no signs of a drop in performance and pick up exactly where they left off.
Aston Martin, who have a number of updates on their car, saw Fernando Alonso just +0.278s behind Verstappen, with Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes just one tenth further adrift.
Robert Shwartzman replaced Carlos Sainz in the Ferrari for FP1 and ended the session in 19th position, 2.951s adrift of the fastest time, though he was on the medium tyre as was Charles Leclerc.
Lance Stroll never set a time as his Aston Martin developed a power unit issue early in the session, which also had a short red flag delay when the Haas of Nico Hulkenberg spun into the tyre wall on Turn 13.
