Verstappen took pole after a final flying lap, despite having to take a penalty for Sunday's race.

Max Verstappen gave his legions of fans a lot to smile about after setting in the fastest time for Sunday’s Belgian Grand Prix.

Verstappen, who will start sixth on Sunday after taking a five-place grid penalty for a new gearbox, was over eight tenths quicker than second-place Charles Leclerc and teammate Sergio Perez.

Lewis Hamilton couldn’t repeat his Hungarian heroics, setting the fourth fastest time ahead of Carlos Sainz and the McLaren duo of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris

Alpine’s dramatic Friday got worse as Pierre Gasly could only manage 12th and Esteban Ocon 15th after a crash in Q2.
