Max Verstappen took sprint shootout pole at the 2023 Austrian GP.

    -

Max Verstappen secured pole position for the Austrian GP Sprint Shootout, beating out teammate Sergio Perez in a Red Bull front-row lockout.

However, with rain forecast for the afternoon and the Mercedes drivers out of position it could be the most exciting sprint race yet – especially if it’s anything like the F3.

Carlos Sainz produced an utterly brilliant effort in SQ1 to make it through to the next session, after he only had one flying lap attempt due to a brake-by-wire issue that kept him in the garage for most of the session.

Esteban Ocon and Kevin Magnussen bring up the rear of the top ten, while Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon were the biggest names eliminated from SQ2 on pace and both AlphaTauris made it through to the second session.
