Just two weeks after a contentious penalty decision at the Canadian Grand Prix, McLaren’s Lando Norris bounced back in style at the Red Bull Ring, earning himself the Driver of the Day in the 2023 Austrian GP.
Norris secured the team’s best decision of 2023 in fifth, as the team marked a huge step forward with upgrades to their car this season, over the weekend.
The Brit battled with drivers from the top teams across the race, including Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, in a race dominated by action up and down the pack as well as penalties for track limit violations.
Verstappen wins in Spielberg
Max Verstappen emerged victorious in the eventful Austrian Grand Prix, while Red Bull fell short of a 1-2 finish at their home race due to Sergio Perez’s inability to overtake Charles Leclerc for the second spot.
Amidst a race that fluctuated across the grid and was characterized by numerous penalties for exceeding track limits, Verstappen effectively managed his tyres for a single-stop strategy that helped him hold off the pursuing Ferrari racers.
In spite of a close gap to Leclerc behind him, the champion even opted for a late pitstop to earn the extra point for the fastest lap. He claimed this on the final lap of the race, crossing the finish line 5.155 seconds ahead of the Monegasque.
Where is the next F1 2023 race?
With F1 finished in Austria, we move on to the 2023 British Grand Prix which will be held at Silverstone in Northamptonshire, England over the weekend of July 7-9.
