Max Verstappen ended the season as it began with another pole position as he put his Red Bull first on the starting grid for the 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as the 2023 Formula 1 heads into its final race.
Lining up on the front row beside Verstappen’s Red Bull will be Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari who pulled a magnificent qualifying time out the bag at the Yas Marina Circuit. Oscar Piastri will start third in his McLaren alongside George Russell, who is fourth on the starting grid.
Lando Norris was provisionally second for a period in qualifying, and looked to be on course for pole position, or at least to give Verstappen a strong challenge. However, the McLaren driver pushed a bit too hard and almost lost the car at the final corner on his final push lap. He starts fifth.
AlphaTauri, who wave goodbye to Franz Tost after the Abu Dhabi GP, have Yuki Tsunoda starting from sixth not he grid, just ahead of Fernando Alonso in the Aston Martin. Nico Hulkenberg’s Haas, Sergio Perez in the star Red Bull and Pierre Gasly’s Alpine round out the top 10.
