Max Verstappen took a dramatic late victory at the 2022 Emilia Romagna GP Sprint Race with an overtake on Charles Leclerc on the penultimate lap to take pole position for the Grand Prix on Sunday.
The Red Bull had lost out to Leclerc at the beginning of the race after a poor start, and the Ferrari had looked in total control until the Monegasque’s tyres began to grain in the later stage of the race.
The struggles gave Verstappen an opening, and the Dutchman took his chance to go around the outside of the Ferrari on the first chicane to secure his spot at the front of the grid for the full-length race.
