F1 2022 driver heights and weights

How tall are the drivers on the 2022 F1 grid? And how much does each F1 driver weigh?

The weight and height of a Formula 1 driver is crucial when it comes to marginal gains in a sport which continues to evolve in the search for fractions of a second.

Whilst modern F1 cars are significantly bigger than the cars from the 20th century, many of the drivers have a similar height and weight.

However, there are still some outliers on the 2022 F1 grid with a wide range between the tallest and shortest drivers, and the heaviest and lightest racers.

2022 F1 grid heights and weights

Does weight and height matter in F1?

In F1, the teams prefer smaller drivers because they provide numerous advantages. A lighter driver allows the teams to develop and distribute the weight of the car for optimal performance.

For example, Yuki Tsunoda is 16kg less than teammate Pierre Gasly so those 16kg can be used to improve the balance of the car by moving it to the front or rear.

The minimum weight of the 2022 F1 car is 795kg, so any weight more than this will cost the drivers lap time.

What is the average height of an F1 driver?

The average height of the 2022 F1 field is 1.77m (5′ 9″), which is the same as the 2021 average even though there have been several driver changes such as the retirement of Kimi Raikkonen, the return of Alex Albon and the debut of Guanyu Zhou.

What is the average weight of an F1 driver?

The average weight of the 2022 F1 grid is 67.35kg. Lewis Hamilton and Nicholas Latifi are the heaviest drivers, whilst Yuki Tsunoda is by far the lightest F1 driver at 54kg.

Who is the shortest driver on the 2022 F1 grid?

Tsunoda is also the shortest driver in the field, with a height of 1.59m (5′ 2″). The AlphaTauri driver is the second shortest driver in F1 history behind Italian Andrea Montermini, who was 1.57m (5′ 1″).

Who is the tallest driver on the 2022 F1 grid?

Esteban Ocon and Alex Albon are the tallest drivers on the 2022 F1 grid at 1.86m (6′ 1″). Hans-Joachim Stuck, who raced in F1 in the 1970s, is the tallest driver in the sport’s history at a height of 1.94m.
