Held from May 16 to 18 at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, simply known as Imola, Piastri arrives as the championship leader as he bids to repel his McLaren colleague as both hunt down their first ever titles.
The Australian has never been out-qualified at this track, which is an advantage he’ll aim to maintain in the face of a formidable rival aiming to find his way back to form after some tricky weeks.
Red Bull‘s defending champion Verstappen enters this weekend needing a strong performance to revive his fading title hopes. The RB21 has proven difficult to master, and he will be hoping to extract maximum performance in qualifying to offset the car’s current limitations.
Ferrari, meanwhile, arrive under pressure. The team has struggled to find form in 2025, securing just one podium so far, falling behind McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes in performance. With new upgrades scheduled for Imola can they get back into the mix?
Mercedes’ 18-year-old Kimi Antonelli, racing near his hometown of Bologna, will be another name to watch. The Imola GP offers an ideal platform for the young Italian to make another statement after his Sprint Pole in the USA.
