Christian Horner hits back at claims he banned Jos Verstappen from Red Bull Legend’s Parade

Red Bull team principal reportedly blocked Jos Verstappen from taking part in the Legend's Parade at the 2024 Austrian GP

-

Christian Horner and Jos Verstappen reignited their feud ahead of the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix as it’s reported the Red Bull team principal blocked the father of Max Verstappen from participating in a Legend’s Parade hailing the heritage of the team.

The pair have been thought to be on different pages since news broke of Horner’s alleged inappropriate conduct with an ex-member of staff as the 52-year-old Verstappen claimed the situation has the potential to tear the team apart.

But the situation appeared to calm down with a relative peace in place as everyone started to focus on the Formula 1 season, until now according to Dutch media as they hit another flashpoint in their relationship.

“Over the past few days, I have heard from several quarters that Christian Horner has done everything he can to make sure I don’t drive,” Verstappen said of his feud with Horner, as per De Telegraaf. “And to make sure otherwise that nothing would be filmed.

“Then I think: say it to my face. This way it doesn’t have to be for me, I find it very disappointing.”

Verstappen was due to drive the RB8, which won the 2012 F1 world championships thanks to an exceptional recovery drive by Sebastian Vettel at the Brazilian GP as he snatched the title away from Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso in the final race of the season.

Although it’s claimed he was unhappy with Verstappen’s initial performance, the Red Bull boss maintains he does not have the power to ban him from the event and that it is being organized by the circuit at the Red Bull Ring and Thomas Uberall of Red Bull GmbH, the parent company of the racing team.

“I’ve been made aware that the legends parade is something that is organised by the by the circuit,” Horner told media, including Total-Motorsport.com. “There was no veto from my side or anything like that and I’m sure the legends will be in action later.”

Christian Horner blames feud on Jos Verstappen

Horner will go down in history as one of the most successful team principals in not just Formula 1 or motorsport, but all sports around the world too after winning 15 titles at Red Bull since they were established in 2004.

He has helped guide Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber, Daniel Ricciardo and Sergio Perez to race wins through his time with the team and, of course, the highly successful partnership with Max Verstappen that sees him currently lead the F1 standings as a triple world champion.

So, Horner took the moment to reference the strong relationships he builds with drivers and even threw in a jab at Verstappen’s father too, by suggesting the ex-F1 racer has an unknown problem with him for some reason.

“The relationship with Max has always been very good, very strong,” Horner told media at the 2024 Austrian GP. “He’s a key part of our team and he’s our driver.

“He’s the one that is important, obviously, to have a strong relationship with like. I’ve never had an issue with any of our drivers’ fathers in the past, and whatever Jos’ issues are, I’ve really got nothing to comment on.

Horner added: “I don’t think it’s really helpful to continue talking on the on the topic of Jos, so I think our focus is very much on Max. He’s our driver. He’s who we have a contract with and he’s who we’re focused on trying to win this Grand Prix with.”
