Austrian GP weather update: What is the F1 race forecast like?

Conditions so far have been dry in Spielberg for the drivers, but the forecasted threat of rain could shake things up during Sunday's race

-

The Formula 1 2024 Austrian Grand Prix is set to unfold at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg today, with Austrian GP weather conditions poised to play a significant role in the race dynamics. Located in the picturesque Styrian mountains, the Red Bull Ring is known for its variable weather, which can rapidly change from sunshine to showers, adding an element of unpredictability to the race.

In the few days leading up to the Austrian GP have seen mixed weather conditions, however during practice, the Sprint and qualifying, hot, dry conditions were prevalent, allowing for optimal performance from the cars. Max Verstappen secured pole position, continuing his dominant form, while Lando Norris and George Russell will start from second and third on the grid, respectively.

The circuit itself, a 4.318 km track featuring ten turns and notable elevation changes, becomes particularly challenging under variable conditions. Key areas such as Turn 3, the tight uphill right-hander, and Turn 9, a fast right-hand corner, are especially tricky in the rain, potentially increasing the risk of incidents and safety car deployments.

As always, weather conditions can significantly impact race outcomes, and today’s Austrian GP promises to be no exception. Fans and teams alike will be watching the skies, as any change in the weather could alter the competitive landscape. With the championship battle intensifying, every point is vital, and the weather could be the wildcard that shakes up the standings.

Austrian GP Weather Update

For the 2024 Austrian GP, weather forecasts indicate fair conditions in the morning, with the possibility of showers in the afternoon and evening.

The chance of rain has decreased according to the latest simulations, now standing at 40%. The temperature will range from a cool 16°C in the morning to a hot 28°C in the afternoon, with the race itself expected to run at around 27°C. Additionally, gusty westerly winds between 10 to 20 km/h could impact car handling and strategy.

The Red Bull Ring’s high-speed sections and braking zones will test the drivers’ skill in maintaining control and extracting maximum performance from their cars.

The Austrian GP at the Red Bull Ring is set for an exciting race day with the possibility of variable weather adding to the challenge. Teams and drivers must remain vigilant and adaptable, ready to seize any opportunity that the changing conditions might present.

The anticipation of rain adds an extra layer of excitement, promising a thrilling contest from start to finish. The Austrian GP weather is sure to be a critical factor in determining today’s race outcome.
