Fernando Alonso has revealed a special helmet design that pays tribute to Sebastian Vettel ahead of what is the German’s final F1 appearance.
The German is calling it at a day after this Sunday’s 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, bringing an end to one of the sport’s most decorated careers.
With four World Championships, 53 wins and 57 pole positions to his name, Vettel will go down as one of the most successful drivers in F1 history.
Lewis Hamilton and Alonso are the only two current drivers who were there for Vettel‘s debut back in 2007, and the Spaniard admits it will be strange not having him on the grid next season.
“Itâs gonna be strange to not have him in next year in the first race,” said Alonso. “I mean, we shared so many things over the last 15 years, sometimes we fought for championships sometimes for seventh places, even in Japan until the finish line.
“We still obviously always enjoy every single battle and respect each other as much as we could. So I think my career is going to be linked to Sebastianâs in a way because we fought for many great things and in the best seasons of our life probably.”
Alonso will honour Vettel by wearing a helmet that is similar to the one the German has worn in recent years. He isn’t the only driver that will don a new design for Sunday’s season finale, so check out all the helmets for the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix below.
