All the new F1 driver helmet designs for Imola 2024

With F1 visiting Imola for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, several drivers have unveiled some eye-catching helmet designs for the occasion which marks 30 years since the death of Ayrton Senna

Pierre Gasly will remember Ayrton Senna at the 2024 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix as the French Alpine driver pays tribute to the three-time champion’s helmet design, whilst Charles Leclerc and Oliver Bearman also brings a special helmet.

Senna lost his life when he collided with a concrete barrier at 131mph when his Williams car failed to turn into the Tamburello corner, taken at 190mph, as he was being pursued by Michael Schumacher on Lap Eight of the San Marino GP leaving him with fatal injuries to his arteries, brain and skull. He died on impact but it’s thought any one of the wounds could have killed him.

The news shocked Formula 1 to its core and 500,000 Brazilians took to the streets to watch his state funeral in Sao Paulo, as well as some of the biggest names and personalities in the sport, which safety regulations were overhauled in a bid to prevent such a tragic loss of life from reoccurring ever again.

In the 30 years since, only Jules Bianchi has been killed inside of an F1 car showing that his death did create the changes needed to protect the lives of the competitors and the sport never forgets the incident at Imola, especially the drivers who idolise him.

That’s why Gasly will run a replica helmet to the kind the great Brazilian famously wore on his way to countless wins, pole positions and fastest laps throughout his incredible career. The lid will be a majority yellow with hints of green and blue, adorned with Alpine‘s sponsors and an emotional “SENNA S” symbol.

Oliver Bearman, who made a very strong impression at the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix when he stood in for Carlos Sainz, returns to an F1 cockpit for the first time since the second race of the season as he participates in FP1 with Haas.

The Ferrari Academy driver, who turned 19 on May 8, has a chance to throw his name into the pool of drivers bidding for Nico Hulkenberg‘s vacated seat for 2025 and he will aim to build on his seventh-placed finish at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit by proving to Ayao Komatsu that he can help set up a car.

Bearman already looks to be putting in the work to claim the spot based on his black and white helmet, honouring the colours of the team, as he flirts with Gene Haas and Komatsu to sign him up for next season.

The white lines appear to resemble the number 50, but his driver number is 38 so it remains to be seen whether this is an intentional choice or message, r a coincidence nobody picked up on during the design process.

The helmet also features red markings on top and running around the white, offering a nice contrast to the black/white mix to give it some much needed colour and personality.

Charles Leclerc will also run a special helmet at Ferrari‘s first home race of the season in 2024 as he pays tribute to Italy, the nation that has essentially adopted him since he burst onto the scene as a prodigious young talent.

So his new helmet will feature the colours of the Italian tricolor on the side and the top of red, white and green, which has been carefully crafted to also allow the 26-year-old to pay homage to his birthplace of Monaco through his driver number 16.
